Parents Meeting | Sunday, Jan 23 at 12:15pm | FBCO Fellowship Hall

Our children are precious gifts from the Lord. We have a responsibility as parents to nurture and care for them physically and spiritually. We know it is important to begin teaching our children the gospel while they’re very young. All our ministries at FBCO for children are aimed at helping them understand that they are sinners in need of a savior, and that Jesus is that great savior. Eventually, our children begin to ask questions and start developing a desire to respond to the truth they are learning. Many times children are eager to be baptized as well, which is a great thing! We don’t ever want to discourage our kids’ interest in taking steps toward the Lord, but we also want to be good stewards of our spiritual oversight in making sure that our kids have a solid understanding of what it means to come to know Christ and follow Him in believer’s baptism.  (Of course, if you attend another church, we would encourage you to have this conversation with your own pastor. We are thankful that you send your child to our church for different ministries. it is our pleasure to minister to them!)

We will have a meeting this Sunday, January 23, 2022, immediately after the morning service to discuss the topic of baptizing our children. If you have a child who attends our church or that has asked questions about baptism in the past, I want to help you think about when it is the right time (age) to baptize your child. It is a difficult question, but you and I can work together as we guide our children in this important matter of their faith. It is possible that you have not thought about your child’s salvation or eternal destiny. Remember, you have a responsibility before God to care for the spiritual well-being of your child. Now is a great time to get involved in church. Maybe you were raised in church and have been gone a long time. Let me assure you that you are welcome here at FBCO. We are committed to teaching the Bible faithfully, the people are friendly, we love your children, and the coffee is hot! Come on back.

In the meeting on Sunday I will give a brief presentation that highlights the special things we need to consider before we baptize a child. We will also have a time of Q&A/discussion so that I can answer any questions you might have about how to talk to your child about the gospel. I will also share some resources that will help you lead your child to Christ.

Please make every effort to attend this meeting. I think you will find it helpful. I also want to share these things with the entire group of parents so we can help each other and pray for each other’s children. This meeting is about the most important thing I can think of. Make it a priority.

If there is a need to put the meeting on zoom, please let me know so I can arrange the technology.
