Notes From the Pastor’s Study- February 19, 2021

IMPORTANT NEWS: We will vote on the New Associate Pastor this weekend.
The Associate Pastor Search Committee is proud to announce that Chris Cavitt and his wife Moriah will be with us this Sunday (Feb. 21) as we all consider whether the Lord is calling him to serve at FBCO as Associate Pastor to Families.  The committee has reviewed dozens of resumes and conducted several interviews with different candidates via Zoom or in person.   After an extensive search, and having reviewed many quality candidates, the Committee is pleased to invite Chris to come this Sunday.
We will have a special called business meeting this Sunday evening at 6pm for the congregation to vote on whether to hire Christ to serve.  I know this has been a wild week with the weather, but all members need to do their best to be present, while still being mindful regarding icy conditions and the virus.

Chris and Moriah Cavitt will be at FBCO this weekend

More info about Chris and Moriah Cavitt
Chris Cavitt spent his childhood in Jacksboro and his teenage years in Amarillo.  Chris has been involved in youth ministry as an intern at his home church, Paramount, in Amarillo, and is currently serving as the youth and college minister at Living Water Church in Canyon, Texas.  He also spent time working in the recreation ministry at First Baptist Amarillo, Texas.  Chris and his wife, Moriah, wed in August of last year.  Moriah has lived all over the place, but she considers Virginia to be home.  Both Chris and Moriah are graduates of West Texas A&M University in Canyon.  Chris also has a Master’s Degree from Southwestern Seminary.  You may view his resume here.  Chris and Moriah are excited about serving the Lord here in Olney. You can watch a short video below that I made with Chris and Moriah that will help you start to get to know them (the picture is a little glitchy, but the audio is mostly fine).

Wednesday 2/24 6:00pm Mid-week – One Night Revival!
One of the benefits of the Simeon Trust preaching conference being held in Graham is that we have excellent preachers headed our way next week.  If you don’t normally come to Mid-Week service, please come this week because we will have Jeff Wiesner preaching for us.   Jeff is the Lead Pastor of North Point Baptist Church in Denton.  I met Jeff last year and began to listen to his sermons on his church website.  Jeff is an incredibly skilled preacher.  All of his sermons are Christ-exalting and expertly delivered.  We will also have Dave Woodbury here to help us lead music.  Dave is the Lead Pastor of First Baptist Nocona. Please show proper Olney hospitality by being present to hear and encourage Jeff and Dave while they are here!  I’m including their biographical information at the end of this post.

Parenting Class February 28 and March 7 from 12:15pm to 3 pm in the Fellowship Hall
Crystal Cook, Kim Bishop, Chad Edgington and Melissa Edgington will be teaching a parenting conference as a service to our community. Due to court orders, CPS parenting plans, counseling needs, and other circumstances, attending a parenting class is a requirement for some people, but no classes are offered in our area.  The closest class is put on by a Catholic church in Wichita Falls.   Our parenting class will cover communication, discipline strategies, routine & structure, and basic life skills.  We want the class to have a small group component in addition to the lecture material.  We will need some of you to come and be group facilitators.  We also need child-care workers and people who can help prepare and serve lunch.  If you would like to help, please contact the office, Crystal Cook, or Chad Edgington.

Sunday 2/28 Regular Business Meeting 6:00pm, Fellowship Hall
Our regularly scheduled business meeting has been moved back to the 28.  Prior to the meeting, all committees will meet at 5:30pm to elect officers and prepare to make any reports to the church that are necessary.  There will be no meal served.

Bios for Jeff and Dave, our One Night Revival Guests!

Jeff Wiesner, Lead Pastor of North Point Baptist Church, Denton
Jeff Wiesner moved to Denton in 2000 to join Denton Bible Church and attend the University of North Texas. Shortly thereafter, he met his wife Kathy while serving in college ministry before getting married in 2003. They have three children.  In 2002, Jeff transferred from UNT to The Criswell College to finish both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biblical Studies and Systematic Theology. During his time in seminary, Jeff served as the College Pastor for Denton Bible Church, where much of his time was spent leading, teaching and discipling students from both UNT and TWU campuses. In the fall of 2013, Jeff and his family resigned from DBC to serve as a pastoral intern at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., before returning to Denton in January 2014 to plant North Point Church. Jeff is passionate about expositionally preaching the good news of Jesus Christ while equipping the church to live together as disciple-making disciples in the world. He also enjoys studying theology, watching movies, and agonizing over the beleaguered mediocrity of our local professional sports teams.

Dave Woodbury, Lead Pastor, First Baptist Church of Nocona
Dave is a native Floridian who grew up in Tampa, graduating with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Tampa and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. After serving in student ministry in churches in Texas and Florida, Dave came to FBC Nocona in 2001 as Minister of Music & Youth. In 2004, the church called him to serve as Lead Pastor. Dave is married to Catherine, and they have 3 children: Charlie, Madeline, and Caroline. Dave enjoys playing guitar and piano, watching Florida Gators athletics, eating (seafood, Cuban, Asian, and Tex-Mex are some of his favorites), and reading just about anything.
